Small Business Legal Services Project & Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative
How to become a client?
- Complete the application including the $100 application fee; and
- Eligible applicants will attend an in-person interview with the attorney.
All businesses benefit from establishing a strong legal foundation and having a thorough understanding of relevant local, state, and federal regulations and laws. The Community Law Center represents Baltimore's small business owners, entrepreneurs, and nonprofit organizations engaged in social entrepreneurship with a range of legal issues, including:
- Forming the appropriate business entity (e.g., corporation, LLC);
- Drafting and reviewing contracts;
- Reviewing financing documents;
- Navigating local and state regulations, permits, and licenses; and
- Understanding applicable employment laws.
For assistance, please submit an application with the nonrefundable $100 application fee and all requested information to the Community Law Center. Upon receipt of the application, an attorney will contact you to arrange an in-person interview. Beyond the nonrefundable $100 application fee, an hourly rate is charged for the attorney's time and clients are responsible for direct expenses (filing fees, postage, copying expenses, etc.) related to the cases.
Youth Entrepreneurs
The Small Business Legal Services Project & Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative address the specific needs of youth, ages 13 to 25, living in distressed communities in Baltimore City who are or aspire to be entrepreneurs. Working with youth entrepreneurship education organizations, small business technical assistance providers, and community organization clients, this Initiative helps young entrepreneurs develop the financial literacy, math, reading, and communication skills to increase their educational and employment options and provides youth with the legal counsel to start and grow their businesses. Ultimately, these young people are more engaged in their communities and have the skills and confidence to be leaders in their communities.
