How to Start and Maintain a Nonprofit Organization
This workshop is designed for persons in Maryland who wish to start a nonprofit or learn how to best maintain your organization’s legal status. You will learn the nuts and bolts of starting an organization, maintaining an organization, and what to do if your organization loses its corporate status. There will be a practical discussion of legal considerations when writing articles of incorporation, bylaws, or applying for tax exemption. Space is limited to allow for individual attention. $25 registration fee includes a copy of How to Start a Nonprofit Organization in Maryland. Held at the Community Law Center. Advance registration and payment is required; no walk-ins will be accepted. Please ensure arrival by 6:30pm; no access to the building will be available after 6:45pm. In case of inclement weather, the workshop will be postponed to Monday, February 2nd. You will be notified by 3pm on the 26th if the workshop will be postponed.

Protesting Liquor Licenses in Your Community
Liquor license renewal season is almost here – is your community ready? Liquor licenses can breathe new vitality into a community by increasing commercial activity, but they can also encourage drug activity, excessive violence and noise; impact parking availability; and drain police resources if they are not managed responsibly. Your community can take control of this situation. The Community Law Center is hosting this workshop designed to teach community leaders and volunteer attorneys those relevant liquor laws, tools needed to negotiate with a liquor licensee, and how to protest a liquor license renewal.

Cleaning and Greening Your Community
Is your community burdened with trash and unmaintained vacant lots? This workshop is designed for community leaders, activists, and residents who wish to clean up their neighborhood and may wish to green vacant lots. You will learn about the legal considerations for your organization and volunteers when cleaning or greening private and City-owned property. You will learn how to find property and business owners. You will also learn methods to discuss these issues with property owners both with and without bringing a lawsuit.

Zoning 101 for Baltimore's Community Associations
This workshop is designed for community leaders concerned about development in their neighborhoods. Participants will learn the basics of the zoning code, zoning applications, requirements for variances and conditional uses, and how to present an argument in front of the Board of Municipal and Zoning Appeals.

How to Identify a Real Estate Scam and What To Do When You See One
Real Estate dishonesty and greed can wreak havoc on communities and neighborhoods; those trying to rebuild and revitalize, and those trying to survive the latest predatory and deceptive scams. The Community Law Center is hosting this workshop designed to teach community leaders, activists, and non-profit practitioners about the methods, tactics and schemes of those who seek to profit in residential real estate by deception and fraud. Please join us for a discussion of relevant laws, as well as who to contact if you suspect a real estate scam has occurred in your community.
